Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe faced a rocky reception, with some movies doing far better than expected, while others fell completely flat. Now, the iconic film franchise is officially in its next era, and with Avengers: Secret Wars set to be Marvel's biggest project in years, there is plenty of speculation regarding how the story will play out.

We will undoubtedly get some major reveals later this year, as the Avengers: Doomsday trailers have posed some big questions that will be answered this December, setting up the massive sequel in 2027. Additionally, with groups like The Fantastic Four and the X-Men coming into the limelight, Secret Wars may phase out the original Avengers entirely, though nothing is confirmed.

With all that said, one game-changing theory hints at the movie's ending already being spoiled, and it could be official now that Steve Rogers is returning in Avengers: Doomsday. The last time we saw him, he was an old man seemingly content with a life we never saw, yet his upcoming role looks destined to shake up everything.

Endgame's Old Man Steve Rogers Spoils The Outcome Of Secret Wars

 Endgame

Marvel's multiverse, alternate timelines, and different versions of the same characters make it a real headache to fully understand each aspect of the franchise, but Steve Rogers returning as an old man in Avengers: Endgame seems to have potentially spoiled Secret Wars' climax before it has even happened.

Unlike in his last appearance, Steve Rogers appeared to be the younger version of him we've all grown to know and love in his Avengers: Doomsday teaser, suggesting we'll get this same version in Secret Wars. This makes sense in terms of allowing him to fight while in his prime, but how it fits into the timeline is another question entirely.

Naturally, some would presume it could be Steve from a different reality, but given he was with a baby — presumably he and Peggy's child — and had the same suit he wore in Endgame, all signs point towards this being the MCU's main Captain America.

Assuming this is the case, one would have to conclude that the older version of Steve in Endgame had already experienced the events of Doomsday and Secret Wars, all but confirming his survival. Of course, this still leaves plenty of questions about the overall timeline and who else will survive, but it could ultimately be an unintentional reveal.

Regardless of what Chris Evans' role is as Steve Rogers in Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, we know the main version of him gets to grow old and eventually return to the MCU timeline as an old man. Therefore, his journey back in time may have involved a lot more than simply returning the Infinity Stones, which these upcoming movies should prove.

Has Steve From The End Of Endgame Really Experienced Doomsday & Secret Wars?

Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/ Captain America in Avengers: Endgame battlefield

With Marvel, it's impossible to know for absolute certainty whether Steve Rogers from Endgame's conclusion has experienced both Doomsday and Secret Wars, but the most likely answer is yes. Given he looks to be a similar age in Doomsday as he was throughout the rest of the MCU, he presumably experienced these conflicts, alongside many more during his life.

When he returns in Endgame, it would make sense for this to be him actually traveling back in time from his experience, having already seen the future, meaning he knows how these events play out. It's understandably confusing to get your head around, but these complicated factors are also why no is a possible answer to this question.

The five-year time jump in Avengers: Endgame somewhat broke the MCU's timeline, as keeping track of when everything takes place afterward has been exhausting. However, this problem may only grow more complex with Steve's return, as the MCU could easily come up with new timelines to try and fit the original Captain America into this story.

Likewise, Marvel is always introducing new rules — such as the multiverse — allowing them to tell bigger and bolder stories. As such, it's possible that Doomsday's Steve Rogers is somehow different from the one seen in Endgame, or that numerous universes could collide in the upcoming Avengers movies to keep things truly unpredictable.

Whatever the case, the current evidence points towards the MCU's main version of Steve experiencing Doomsday and Secret Wars by the time he returns in Endgame, and if this does turn out to be canon, it makes his passing of the torch so much more meaningful.

Steve Not Telling Sam About His Time In The Past Will Gain A New Meaning

 Endgame

Steve Rogers' return naturally has some fans feeling like it invalidates his Endgame send-off, but there is a world where it actually becomes even more powerful. After returning the Infinity Stones and showing up as an old man, Steve decides to give his shield and subsequently the Captain America mantle to Sam Wilson, confirming him as Steve's successor.

Initially, this feels like a case of the hero simply believing in his friend and trusting him enough to honor his legacy, but there could be more to the story. Assuming both were involved in Doomsday and Secret Wars, Steve may have seen Sam's heroics and watched him risk his life despite not having any actual powers.

Seeing his bravery firsthand as he saves the world would be more than enough evidence for Steve to know that Sam can step up and become the next Captain America, despite the odds being stacked against him. Therefore, not telling him any of this proves that Sam's heroism has always come from within, rather than as some act of destiny.

At first glance, many might've thought Steve kept his life with Peggy to himself for personal reasons, but it may be because Sam will eventually meet her and form his own unbiased opinion. Overall, it feels like Steve keeping his life secret is for the benefit of Sam, both as a hero and a friend, which he'll eventually realize himself.

Even if it somewhat changes the reason behind Steve choosing Sam as the next Captain America, there is still plenty of heart behind this decision, giving their interaction during Endgame a whole new meaning, which could end up playing a big role come Avengers: Secret Wars.
