The X-Men will return in Avengers: Doomsday, promises the latest (and perhaps best) teaser for Marvel's next big Avengers event. The third teaser trailer for Avengers: Doomsday focuses on the X-Men, promising the return of Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, and James Marsden as Cyclops.
Avengers: Doomsday's X-Men teaser — like the Steve Rogers and Thor trailers that preceded it — is a somber affair. It shows a destroyed Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, an older and chummier Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr, and an enraged Scott Summers unleashing optic blasts while Sentinels lurk behind him. And like the Doomsday trailers that have rolled out over the course of weeks, it appears to follow a theme: Are the kids of the MCU gonna be OK?
Precisely what Doctor Doom's plans for the kids of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are remains unclear, but if the Latverian leader is going after Franklin Richards — as teased at the end of The Fantastic Four: First Steps — he may also be going after Steve Roger's baby, Thor's adopted daughter Love, and the teens who study under Professor X and his team of mutants. At least there's some good news: Cyclops' X-Men 'fit is comics accurate (sans yellow trunks).
More of a bummer? The vibes imply that Doomsday could very well give us our FOURTH on-screen death of Patrick Stewart's Professor X.
Marvel reportedly has at least one more teaser planned to tee up Avengers: Doomsday, one that is rumored to focus on the Wakandans and members of the Fantastic Four. Expect that one to appear in movie theaters this week, and more widely next week.
The next Avengers movie also stars Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, alongside returning Marvel actors Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Sebastian Stan as the Winter Soldier, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent, Tenoch Huerta Mejía as Namor, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Pedro Pascal as Mister Fantastic, Joseph Quinn as the Human Torch, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as the Thing, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Florence Pugh as White Widow, Kelsey Grammer as the Beast, Lewis Pullman as Sentry, Danny Ramirez as Falcon, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Winston Duke as M'Baku, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, and Channing Tatum as Gambit.
Avengers: Doomsday arrives in movie theaters on Dec. 18. A follow-up, Avengers: Secret Wars, arrives in December 2027.
