Avatar: Fire and Ash is set to top the domestic box office chart once again. After debuting at No. 1 with the second-best opening weekend of the three Avatar movies, the latest installment in James Cameron's epic sci-fi franchise held its position during its second and third weekends in spite of competition from major Christmas releases including Marty Supreme and Anaconda.

Per Deadline, as of Saturday morning, Avatar: Fire and Ash is projected to earn a 3-day total between $21 and $24 million at the domestic box office by the end of its fourth weekend in theaters. This will be more than enough for it to take No. 1 for the fourth weekend in a row.

In doing so, 2025's Avatar: The Way of Water follows in the footsteps of both of its predecessors. 2009's Avatar and 2022's The Way of Water remained No. 1 at the domestic box office for seven straight weekends.

Fire and Ash has managed to top the chart in spite of competition from two incoming new releases, which are the first major wide releases of 2026. Those titles would be Paramount's new killer chimpanzee thriller Primate and the Gerard Butler-led post-apocalyptic thriller Greenland 2: Migration.

Of those two new release titles, Primate is the clear winner. It is projected to earn roughly $11 million, which sees it locked in a neck-and-neck battle for No. 2 with the Sydney Sweeney thriller The Housemaid ($10.6 million) and Disney's billion-dollar animated hit Zootopia 2 ($11 million).

Greenland 2 is trailing behind all three of those titles with a projected $8.5 million debut. While the movie comes with a reported production budget of $90 million, Lionsgate acquired the movie for domestic distribution for just $10 million, so it's on track for about the level of performance that they seem to have anticipated.

Additionally, the original Greenland was a 2020 title that had a compromised theatrical release due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so its core viewership could very well be the at-home audience that will come into play when it debuts on VOD, physical media, streaming, and television.
