Arc Raiders in first-person looks utterly terrifying

Arc Raiders is a tense game at the best of times. While it can often be friendly, especially when playing solos, even that has moments of uncertainty as you wait with bated breath to see if the player you've stumbled upon will shoot at you or not. And then there are Arc enemies, hostile robots that will pursue you until you're dead, with severe target fixation.

One Redditor, user Short_Satisfaction_9, took to the console commands — access to which has now, sadly, been hotfixed out — to jerry-rig a makeshift first-person view. In the first video they uploaded, you can see it's by no means perfect: The equipped weapon has some seriously pronounced bobbing, the inside of the character model's face clips in and out of view, and climbing ladders looks a little ridiculous.

Combat, however, looks intense. In one skirmish with a couple of Hornets, they're shooting wildly at the flying pests while their squad waits for the extraction lift. Towards the end of the video, they're shooting at the Queen, when a Leaper comes flying through the sky right in front of them, true jump scare-style.

After tweaking a couple of settings, the same user managed to refine the perspective a touch more, and uploaded a second video.

"With my second test I wanted to see what it was like in darker environments, and against Arc [enemies] mostly," Short_Satisfaction_9 explained. "This might be a hot take, but I hope in the future we do get some kind of first person option. Having leapers chase you in first-person actually makes you feel like you're playing Dying Light for a second, and it's really hard to get that same feeling in third-person."

Unfortunately, as explained above, Embark Studios has patched the ability to do this now. We could well see a first-person mode come to Arc Raiders in the future though, and it's safe to say it'd be welcomed if the comments on the two Reddit posts are anything to go by.
