EXCLUSIVE: Max Talisman and Lynne Kamm are gearing up for a spring shoot for The Right Side, a new independently produced comedy series to star Golden Globe winner Andie MacDowell (Sex, Lies, and Videotape), Dyllón Burnside (Pose), and Talisman (Super Dark Times).
Talisman and Kamm will serve as co-showrunners, executive producers, and writers, with Buzz Koenig producing for Atlantic Pictures. Katharina Eggmann is handling additional casting. Talisman and Koenig reteam here after working together on Things Like This, a recent indie comedy written and directed by Talisman, where he stars opposite James Leon and Joey Pollari.
Shooting in New York, The Right Side is described as a story about politics as content, family as collateral damage, and the impossible task of loving people you fundamentally disagree with. It begins after a live, on-air announcement turns a terminal illness into a national spectacle. America’s most beloved conservative TV couple’s carefully curated public persona collides with their very real family when their liberal, podcast-famous kids return home for a network tribute special. Notably, the same kids host a show dedicated to tearing down everything their parents stand for.
MacDowell plays Ruthie, a right-wing news celebrity and co-host of a morning show whose public-facing marriage — and private life as a mother of twins — is tested as the family is forced into the spotlight. Details as to the roles of Burnside and Talisman weren’t disclosed.
In a statement to Deadline, Talisman said, “Growing up around DC politics, I was struck when I moved to Los Angeles by how little space there was for honest conversation about our country and its divides. I became obsessed with the idea of a show that explores those conversations in a fresh and nuanced way. By examining politics through one fractured family, The Right Side asks whether people with opposing beliefs can still listen to each other and find common ground.”
Also previously seen in film and TV titles like Super Dark Times, Orange Is the New Black, and Search Party, Talisman is repped by Luber Roklin and Grubman Shire Meiselas & Sacks.
Kamm is an award-winning writer and executive producer who wrote the entire inaugural season of CBC’s Plan B, earning a 2024 Canadian Screen Award nomination for Best Drama. Additional television credits include the Emmy-winning 19-2 (CTV/Netflix), Transplant (NBC/CTV), Ransom (CBS/TF1), and cult comedy Letterkenny (Hulu/Crave). A Nicholl Fellow as well as an alumna of the Canadian Film Centre, Berlinale Talent Campus, and the Sundance Lab, she’s seen her writing receive a WGA nomination, multiple Canadian Screen Awards, and a WGC Drama Award. She is repped by Anonymous Content and Luber Roklin Entertainment.
Known for iconic films like Groundhog Day, Four Weddings and a Funeral, and Sex, Lies, and Videotape, MacDowell has most recently been seen starring in the Hallmark series The Way Home, as well as films like Goodrich with Michael Keaton and Mila Kunis. She is repped by Gersh and RMS Productions.
Best known for a starring role in FX’s groundbreaking drama Pose, Burnside has also been seen in Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story and American Horror Stories. He is repped by CAA, Artists First, and Ryan Levine.
