An experienced Editor and part of Team Anime on Screen Rant, J.R. has been reading manga since the first printing of Shonen Jump in North America. This passion drove him to write about anime, manga, and manhwa since 2022, having recently served as Lead Anime Editor for ComicBook.com.
His favorite moments in media coverage include reviewing the series premieres of Zom 100 and Bleach: TYBW Part 2 back-to-back and briefly meeting Junji Ito at a VIZ gallery event in 2023.
Winter 2026 is host to plenty of exciting new anime, but outside hits like Solo Leveling, the world of manhwa's fascinating Superstring Universe is providing perhaps one of its most anticipated yet. Terror Man, which ran from 2016-2020, which announced its Korean anime adaptation (aka aeni) in 2023, is set to stream on Korea's TVING service in January 2026.
Terror Man, written by Han Dong-woo and illustrated by Ko Jin-ho, is an acclaimed sci-fi thriller in which its protagonist, Min Jungwoo, wrestles with the dark gift to perceive "Misfortune" 15-20 minutes into the future. Despite this, he is thrust consistently into danger, eventually accepting his fate and adopting a fake terrorist persona to prevent further disaster.
Terror Man's Aeni Is Coming January 2026
While Terror Man has yet to confirm international streaming so far, it's remained nonetheless highly anticipated, with localization likely in its future. The aeni is produced by Studio BAZOOKA, and animated by DR Movie, the studio which once worked on The Rising of the Shield Hero season 2, as well as Avatar: The Last Airbender, Castlevania, and The Batman.
Terror Man's teaser from October 15, 2025, revealed not only the January 2026 release window, but a fascinating glimpse at the stylized, action-packed visuals with a keen eye for sticking to the source manhwa. It's easily one of the coolest projects of the Winter 2026 anime season, and a stellar example of growing ambition within South Korea's aeni medium.

Jungwoo's life is far from ordinary, having the psychic ability to perceive Misfortune as a purple fog. While Jungwoo can focus on certain people more than others afflicted by Misfortune, he can also see its overpowering hold such as over structures on the brink of collapse.
But, as a masked Jungwoo is consistently branded a terrorist while trying to save civilians, each life he saves only emboldens his misery. Despite all this, the story remains deceptively lighthearted at times, with even Jungwoo's unhinged acquaintances like Lilia shining brilliantly as her background continues to be revealed.
The Superstring Universe Grows Stronger
While Terror Man is finally coming years after its initial announcement, the original Blade of the Phantom Master series was adapted by OLM into an anime film in 2004. However, it is arguably much more fitting for South Korea's most famous comic universe established by YLAB, to be turned into aeni in this case, with lots more to follow.
For instance, fellow Superstring series Housekeeper is planning a 3D anime adaptation with Studio Gale. Studio Dragon, responsible for many of the modern day's hottest K-dramas, is reportedly planning adaptations for Distant Sky, Electronics Horror Store, Terror Man and Reawakened Man, even releasing Island in 2022. Studio Santa Claus even produced a live-action K-drama for Prince of Prince for KBS.
While hits like Reawakened Man are practically a given, especially with its planned 2026 movie, others, like Jungle Juice, are making a splash internationally as exceptional manhwa for fans of Western comics like X-Men. Generally speaking, Terror Man's anime adaptation is exciting not just for more content, but because it could stir the sleeping giant that is the Superstring Universe.
