Absolute Joker's monster form may be terrifying, but his human form is even creepier. The Joker manages to be DC's most intimidating villain despite being one of the weakest. With no apparent superpowers, the Joker's complete lack of empathy and self-preservation makes him a truly heartless criminal who acts like the human embodiment of evil.
In the Absolute Universe, the Joker is a nearly immortal criminal with deep ties to Gotham's history and the ability to morph into a hulking creature that resembles nothing short of a living nightmare. Absolute Joker's true form sports a huge mouth filled with fangs, extremely long limbs, and what could be described as a set of misshapen horns. But there's more to Batman's archnemesis in this sinister universe.
Absolute Joker's Shapeshifting Power Is His Creepiest Trait
Absolute Joker Doesn't Have A Face Of His Own
Alfred Pennyworth knows Absolute Joker's real story. He reveals to Bruce Wayne that the Joker has taken the identity of multiple generations of the same family over the years. However, not only does the Joker's regenerative abilities allow him to pull this off, but every time he appears, he looks like a slightly different man.
The Joker's ability to retain his youth by feeding off orphans and homunculi may be imperfect. When Absolute Joker tries to pass off as a regular human, his regenerative abilities fail to capture the same likeness. Meanwhile, the demonic monster beneath is probably making his best effort to behave like a human being and slightly missing the mark.
On top of that, since Absolute Joker's shapeshifting powers are based on regeneration, he's virtually immortal. Batman struggles to defeat Bane due to Bane's use and abuse of Venom. Even after defeating him, Bane regenerates from nothing but a brain and a pair of eyes. When the Dark Knight crosses paths with the Joker, he'll probably realize the Absolute Universe's Clown Prince of Crime is impossible to stop.
Absolute Joker's Shapeshifting Abilities Fit His Mysterious Origin Perfectly
The Joker Has Never Been Just One Man
Ironically, the nightmarish Absolute Universe provides a more detailed look at the Joker's past than most DC continuities. But just like most Jokers in the DC multiverse, Absolute Joker doesn't have a single real identity, or a single real human face. DC's main Joker doesn't have a definitive origin story. At one point, the 'Three Jokers' theory suggested that three different criminals posed as the same villain. In another version, the Joker suggested he's the Pale Man, an immortal dark figure from Gotham's secret history.
The Absolute Universe presents the opposite idea of the Three Jokers. Multiple men are actually the same individual, with a seemingly human facade barely containing an even bigger monster than Bane. Some of Absolute Joker's faces look rather normal, even conventionally attractive. Others fail to achieve the same effect and end up resembling a skull, and others barely do the job as they're shrouded in darkness, hinting at the smiling creature hiding beneath.

HISTORY The Joker's history has been depicted with various origin stories, the most common being his transformation into the Joker after falling into a vat of chemical waste that bleaches his skin white, turns his hair green, and lips bright red. This disfigurement drives him insane, leading him to become Batman's greatest nemesis.
