Ethan Hawke's 2020 civil war drama The Good Lord Bird is back on streaming charts five years after the Showtime miniseries completed its run. Streaming data from FlixPatrol shows the dramedy series is among the top 10 most-watched shows on Amazon Prime Video, currently in seventh place. The Good Lord Bird was a critical success with a 98% on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. The miniseries aired from October 4, 2020, and concluded its seven-episode run on November 15, 2020. The story came to a natural conclusion, writing off any potential for future seasons.

The Good Lord Bird is based on James McBride's novel of the same name. It starred Joshua Caleb Johnson and Hawke as Henry Shackleford (nicknamed Onion) and John Brown, respectively. Events in the series are told from Onion's perspective. The fictional character joins Brown's band of abolitionists, who had been working to end slavery for years before the Civil War. Brown believes that slavery is a stain on the human race and is willing to do anything to see the practice ended. However, there are forces motivated to keep it going or end the practice by less violent means. Hawke's performance as Brown remains a memorable aspect of the show, earning him numerous award nominations with two wins. The Good Lord Bird won an Emmy for its main title sequence.

In addition to Hawke, the stacked cast includes Beau Knapp (Owen Brown), Hubert Point-Du Jour (Bob), Nick Eversman (John Brown Jr.), Ellar Coltrane (Salmon Brown), Jack Alcott (Jason Brown), Mo Brings Plenty (Ottawa Jones), Daveed Diggs (Frederick Douglass), Wyatt Russell (J.E.B. Stuart), McKinley Belcher III (Broadnax), Rafael Casal (John Cook), Zainab Jah (Harriet Tubman), David Morse (Dutch Henry Sherman), Steve Zahn (Chase), Maya Hawke (Annie Brown), Orlando Jones (The Rail Man), Victor Williams (Coachman Jim), Quentin Plair (Emperor), Miles Mussenden (Dangerfield Newby), and Brooks Ashmanskas (Lewis Washington).

What Is Ethan Hawke Working on Currently?

Hawke has a slew of projects in various stages of production. His upcoming films include Revolver, Tonight at Noon, and The Weight, while TV shows include The Lowdown Season 2 and The Whites.
