Netflix has the perfect selection of movies to enjoy this January, providing a touch of levity with three exciting entries. Leaving Christmas movies in the past and after last weekend's Netflix movie list focused on a couple of darker, more dramatic releases, I believe the time is right to continue January with a dash of light-heartedness.

The perfect way to do so is through rom-coms, a genre the streamer knows well, as there are many heartwarming rom-coms on Netflix. As such, I have included a recent Netflix original movie with a bona fide movie star, as well as Netflix's hottest new book adaptation. Finally, to change things a bit, the final movie of the weekend is a superhero masterpiece. Check them out:

3 People We Meet on Vacation (2025)

First up is Netflix's latest release, People We Meet on Vacation. The movie is the first adaptation of an Emily Henry book, based on the hit novel of the same name. It follows the story of Poppy (Emily Bader) and Alex (Tom Blyth), two strangers who become friends over a car ride and decide to meet up every year for a vacation trip.

After many years of getting closer and closer, the two very different characters eventually start to question whether there could be more between them. People We Meet on Vacation is a breezy watch, perfect to wind down after the work week with a fun romance. ScreenRant's Molly Freeman rated the movie 9/10, saying, "a charming and fun romantic comedy that's sure to captivate audiences."

2 Set It Up (2018)

After checking out People We Meet on Vacation, I believe many Netflix subscribers will have caught the rom-com bug, and the perfect way to keep that streak going over the weekend is with another Netflix Original, 2018's Set It Up. Since the film's release, Glen Powell has exploded in popularity, becoming one of Hollywood's favorite leading men.

Powell is famous for playing extroverted characters, like Top Gun: Maverick's Hangman and Twisters' Tyler Owens. However, Set It Up sees him in a different role, playing the workaholic assistant Charlie Young. The film showcases Powell's sizzling chemistry with Zoey Deutch as Powell's Charlie and Deutch's Harper try to set up their bosses but fall in love themselves. It is a hilarious and sweet movie.

1 Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)

Finally, after two rom-coms, the last movie I recommend watching on Netflix this weekend is one of the best superhero films of all time. With all the speculation about Tom Holland's Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which will be released in theaters on July 31, 2026, the timing is perfect to watch another Spider-Man's debut.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is currently the 9th most-watched movie on Netflix in the United States, so anyone not giving it a try is missing out. The film made Miles Morales a household name, starting one of the most emotional superhero franchises. The multiverse elements are exciting, the character dynamics are strong, and the animation completely changed the medium, making it a must-watch on Netflix.
