In over three years at Collider, senior author Jake has now penned over 2500 articles covering a wide range of TV and film for the resources, lists, utilities, news, and interview teams. Alongside interviewing stars such as Selin Hizli, Rose Ayling-Ellis, Harlan Coben, and Chelsea Peretti, Jake was lucky enough to visit the set of Aardman and Netflix's Wallace and Gromit: A Vengeance Most Fowl in 2024, getting the chance to chat with four-time Academy Award winner Nick Park and Merlin Crossingham. Jake has also worked for other publications, including Agents of Fandom.
After topping the Netflix charts in the U.S. since its debut, the latest collaboration between Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, the twisting crime thriller The Rip, has finally been knocked from its perch. However, this new streaming champion came unusually from horror, a genre not necessarily associated with January. After flopping at the box office, the violent horror sequel M3GAN 2.0 has slashed its way to the top of the Netflix charts. But what else is ready and waiting in the Netflix catalog to make your weekend even greater? To help you decide what to pick, here's a list of three movies you should watch on Netflix.

3 'Stone Cold Fox' (2025)
Rotten Tomatoes: 60% | IMDb: 5.0/10
Ahead of her return to Marvel in Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again, check out Krysten Ritter's underrated 2025 effort, Stone Cold Fox. The movie follows Kiernan Shipka’s titular Fox, a woman who escapes an abusive commune and begins searching for her family. However, when a corrupt cop is sent after her, she is forced back to the heart of her horror.
Directed by Sophie Tabet and based on a screenplay she wrote with Julia Roth, Stone Cold Fox isn't without its flaws, but thanks to electric performances and a gripping central story, it's certainly worth your time this weekend. A revenge tale with a sweet aftertaste, Stone Cold Fox pays homage to action movies of old whilst painting its own picture.
2 'The Children Act' (2017)
Rotten Tomatoes: 74% | IMDb: 6.5/10
A legal drama boasting one of the best performances in Emma Thompson's extensive career, The Children Act follows Judge Fiona May (Thompson), who, against the backdrop of a spiraling personal life, is forced to make a decision on the trickiest case of her career. When a teenage boy refuses a blood transfusion on religious principle, his fate lies in the hands of Fiona.
Also starring the ever-brilliant Stanley Tucci and Reena Lalbihari, there is a very good chance that you have yet to hear of The Children Act. This is in no way indicative of its quality, with director Richard Eyre's detailed drama falling further under the radar than it deserved. Thankfully, you can rectify that this weekend on Netflix.
1 'Bottoms' (2023)
Rotten Tomatoes: 91% | IMDb: 6.7/10
If you'd prefer something less serious to add some light to your dark January nights, look no further than the utterly hilarious high school comedy, Bottoms. Directed and co-written by the brilliant Emma Seligman, Bottoms follows Rachel Sennott and Ayo Edebiri's unpopular high school students who use the unlikely ruse of a fight club to try to lose their virginity before graduation.
If you think the premise sounds absurd, you'd be right — it is, and brilliantly so. Sennott and Edebiri's comedic chemistry oozes out of every frame of Bottoms, but don't allow that to let your guard down, as this clever coming-of-age flick features several touching emotional beats. A future teen classic, put Bottoms at the top of your weekend watchlist.
