The first reviews for 28 Years Later: Bone Temple are in, and it’s already setting a franchise record.
According to Rotten Tomatoes, 28 Years Later: Bone Temple has debuted with a 96% score based on 48 reviews. While the score will fluctuate as more are tabulated, it currently makes the new sequel the highest-rated installment in the franchise.
In ScreenRant’s review of 28 Years Later: Bone Temple, Gregory Nussen awarded a near-perfect 9 out of 10 stars, comparing the sequel as “imminently more haunting than the supernatural evil destructively lumbering through the woods.” Furthermore, they called the new installment the DaCosta’s best work, as she was also the director behind the heavily divisive MCU movie, The Marvels.
The review ends with high praise for the two key characters, stating that: “As two sides of an extraordinarily bizarre coin, Dr. Kelson and Jimmy Crystal are brought to life by Fiennes and O'Connell with performances opposite but equal in their energy — and contrast in options for navigating a broken world.”
28 Years Later: Bone Temple will release in theaters on January 16, 2026.
