Shrishty is a decade-old journalist covering a variety of beats between politics to pop culture, but movies are her first love, which led her to study Film and TV Development at UCLAx. She lives and breathes cinema and sometimes wakes up with the close-up shot of Ryan Gosling's hands playing piano in La La Land, in her head.

She has worked with numerous media outlets, including Burda Media (MSN News), DKODING Media, The Voice of Fashion, Hindustan Times, and more. Throughout her career, she has interviewed an array of people, from CEOs and politicians to filmmakers and farmers.

Marvel Studios has a few controversial movies, but none have proven as controversial as The Marvels. The Nia DaCosta-directed movie was both fairly and unfairly criticized for a number of things, including bad VFX and tonal inconsistencies, among other things. Led by Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, Iman Vellani as Ms Marvel, and Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, even the trio’s chemistry couldn’t save the movie from becoming one of the MCU's lowest-grossing entries. Now, years later, DaCosta reflects on the box office numbers and her on-set experience.

“It’s so interesting, because the Marvel machine had so much chatter around it,” DaCosta said in a new interview, adding, “But when I look back on it, everyone tried their best. Everyone was trying to make a great film…and I will say I’m really happy to have those relationships.” The director not only took away good work experience but also made friends whom she visited on the sets of the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. It seems DaCosta has moved on from the performance and reception of the movie, as she added:

“I was just visiting the Avengers set last summer, which was really fun, catching up with the producers, seeing the Russos, and some of my friends were in the movie. So it was really nice, despite how everything went with the box office and the reviews, knowing that the relationships are so good. I look back and everyone tried their best and everyone was trying to do the right thing, and it is what it is.”

The Marvels grossed approximately $206 million worldwide against a production budget of $270 million. Its performance is mirrored in its mixed Rotten Tomatoes ratings; the feature has a 63% score from critics and another 79% from audiences. In retrospect, the post-credit scene of the film proves quite compelling, given that it directly leads to the upcoming Doomsday.

Nia DaCosta's ‘28 Years Later: The Bone Temple’ Comes to Theaters This Weekend

DaCosta is set to deliver the next iteration of the 28 Days Later franchise, The Bone Temple. The movie will pick up the pieces from last year's Danny Boyle-directed feature 28 Years Later. The Bone Temple follows Dr. Kelson (Ralph Fiennes), who finds himself in a shocking new relationship with consequences that could change the world as he knows it. Meanwhile, Spike's (Alfie Williams) encounter with Jimmy Crystal becomes a nightmare he can't escape.

The Marvels is streaming on Disney+. 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is set to release on January 16 in the US. Stay tuned to Collider for more such updates.
