201 Films Eligible for Oscar Best Picture Consideration

The Oscars announced Tuesday that 317 feature films are eligible for consideration at the 98th Academy Awards, including 201 titles that qualify for the best picture race.

According to the Academy, the 201 films eligible for best picture met additional eligibility requirements beyond those for general entry, including expanded theatrical runs and the submission of a confidential Academy Representation and Inclusion Standards Entry (RAISE) form. Films were required to meet at least two of the four Academy inclusion standards and complete a qualifying theatrical engagement in at least 10 of the top 50 U.S. markets within 45 days of their initial release in 2025.

Eligibility for best picture remains provisional for some late-year releases. Films that do not complete their planned expanded theatrical run by Jan. 22, 2026, may be removed from contention. Distributors and producers were also given the option to opt out of best picture consideration.

To qualify for general entry categories, feature films were required to open in a commercial motion picture theater for at least seven consecutive days in one of six designated U.S. metropolitan areas — Los Angeles County, the City of New York, the Bay Area, Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth or Atlanta — between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2025. Eligible films must also have a running time of more than 40 minutes.

The Academy previously announced shortlists in 12 artisan categories.

A total of 24 categories will be awarded at the ceremony. Each category will have five nominees, except for best picture, which will include 10. Best picture nominees are determined by eligible members across all 19 Academy branches. All rounds of Oscar voting are conducted by secret online ballot and tabulated by the independent accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Nominations voting will begin Monday, Jan. 12, 2026, and conclude Friday, Jan. 16, 2026. Official nominations for the 98th Academy Awards will be revealed Thursday, Jan. 22, 2026. The 98th Academy Awards will take place Sunday, March 15, 2026, at the Dolby Theatre and will be televised live on ABC in more than 200 territories worldwide.
